Bio
Stuart Deverney, RPF teaches in the Renewable Resources Program with an emphasis on the engineering side of resource management – basic surveying, forest road engineering, and forest harvesting systems. Born and raised in the West Kootenays, Stu has been an instructor at Selkirk since 1984. Prior to teaching at Selkirk, Stu worked for the Ministry of Forests as an Assistant Ranger/Forest Technician and as a Logging Supervisor/Forester for a private sawmill. In addition to his work as an instructor, Stu has continued to work as a consultant to government and industry on a wide range of issues and topics. Stu also manages Selkirk College’s Woodlot (WL 400).
Stu’s passion for working in natural resource management for over 40 years is based on a statement he came upon many years ago – “ A person who plants trees is a person who believes in the future.” Having been involved in the harvesting, re-establishment, and managing of the forests of British Columbia, he has been able to maintain an optimistic outlook for the future of natural resource management.
When not working as an instructor or consultant, you will find him either golfing, downhill skiing, searching for the ultimate huckleberry patch, or working in the garden/orchard at his home in Castlegar.
