Bio
When Joan joined Selkirk College in 1980, she began teaching English in Nelson for new immigrants. She has studied and taught in Tunisia, France, Japan, China and the United States. After completing an MA from UBC and teaching and coordinating first year study for a Japanese/Canadian international college for 10 years, Joan returned to Selkirk College in Castlegar in 2000. She enjoys teaching academic English to international students. As well as teaching in the TESOL program, she is the TESOL Coordinator for international and Canadian students who are learning how to teach English as a Second Language. After more than 25 years of teaching experience, Joan continues to be inspired by students' genuine efforts to learn and expand their language and intercultural skills.
