Course Outline Process Update
Changes are coming to the course outline process. Read some frequently asked questions to learn about what's changing, why and what it means for instructors.
Why is the process changing?
The college uses the Curriculum Strategy system for three things right now: course catalogue, curriculum management and syllabus management. Last year, Curriculum Strategy informed us that they are discontinuing the syllabus management module.
What has the Registrar’s Office done?
The Registrar’s Office investigated other syllabus systems. While there are great products out there, they are more expensive. They would also involve a new system that would not be integrated with Curriculum Strategy, so the curriculum and catalogue would not be connected to syllabus.
Next, we investigated expanding our use of the curriculum module within Curriculum Strategy to produce full course outlines. We’ve determined that it will be possible and are working with Curriculum Strategy to make these changes.
What does it mean for instructors?
For any course outlines submitted before the end of May, it will be business as usual. The syllabus module will be used, as it has in the past, for fall 2026 course outlines.
What if I don’t get my course outline submitted before the end of May?
The Registrar’s Office will be doing a data transfer of all course outlines in the system (both past and new for fall 2026) at the end of May, converting them to the new format in the curriculum module. Instructors will then access and update course outlines in the curriculum module.
The layout and appearance will be familiar, there will just be some different fields to accommodate new workflows, and the organization will be a bit different. Old course outline information will be imported, so instructors will need to go in to do updates on the new form.
How can I get help navigating the change?
The governance and records coordinator will be available to assist instructors and will set up online drop-in sessions for help.
Other Information
As part of this change, there is an opportunity to improve transparency for students and transfer processes by posting course outlines on the academic calendar. That is the intention for fall 2026, but we welcome feedback on that element.
