Intranet Project Update
Selkirk College is beginning the next phase of work to modernize our intranet – the internal platform employees use to access information, tools and shared resources. Today, employee information lives across multiple locations (including MySelkirk and Confluence), making it difficult to find and maintain. We will be migrating this content to a single platform – SharePoint within Microsoft 365 – which many of us already use for day-to-day work.
This change involves both a technology shift and an update to how internal information is organized and maintained. We will be introducing clearer content governance and a distributed publishing model so areas can more easily keep content accurate and up to date. Over the coming months, we will be consulting on content needs before migration, improving structure and navigation, and exploring features that will make it easier to find the information and tools we use every day.
Why this work matters
The recent Organizational Climate Survey highlighted that employees value connection, community, supporting one another, and pointed to opportunities to strengthen communication, collaboration, and how information is shared across the college. Similar themes came through during development of the new Strategic Plan. The plan’s Deliver: A High-Performance, High-Support Organization dimension emphasizes dependable systems, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility. Modernizing our intranet and moving to a single platform is one practical step toward these goals. This includes retiring aging and costly systems and consolidating employee content within a single platform, helping improve access to internal information and creating clearer structures for keeping content organized and up to date.
What to expect
Over the coming months, we will:
- Consult with employees on intranet content needs before migration
- Develop an improved structure that makes information easier to find
- Explore features that improve collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and communication
- Build a decentralized content model so departments can maintain accurate, current information
- Provide training and support to ensure a smooth transition
Project approach
This project is being coordinated by ITS and HR, informed by insights from Communications & Public Engagement, and shaped by consultation with departments across the college. Our intention is to take a thoughtful, collaborative approach that reflects employee needs and the realities of our working environment. Content review will take place over the next few months, followed by migration and training, with the new intranet expected to go live in spring 2026.
How to participate
