Selkirk College Day: Celebrating Excellence, Care and Commitment
—From the Desk of Stacey Matthews, Executive Director of Human Resources
Last week, colleagues from across campuses and departments came together for something truly special: the inaugural Selkirk College Day.
The event focused on connecting, sharing a sense of pride in our work and holding space to celebrate the people who make Selkirk College what it is. The atmosphere in the room was a powerful reminder of the dedication, care and commitment that exists across the organization.
A highlight of the day was the Summit Awards ceremony, which recognized excellence across the college. The nominations spoke volumes, reflecting the dedication, compassion and innovation that define the college’s workforce. They made one thing clear: exceptional work is happening throughout the college. Quite simply, we wish we could give every employee an award.
I am pleased to congratulate this year’s recipients in the following categories:
- Commitment: Allison Lutz
- Innovation: School of Tourism and Hospitality’s Tourism and Destination Management Program team (Mallory Attorp, Laura Boehm, Martin Keyserlingk, Robyn Mitz)
- Instructional Excellence: Shana Rablah
- Service Excellence: Melissa Thorne
- Leadership: Rob Schwarzer
- Community Connector: Kim Verigin
Each of these individuals and teams exemplifies what it means to contribute to Selkirk College in meaningful and lasting ways. Their work supports students, strengthens teams and helps move the college forward.
A special element of this year’s ceremony was the awards created by the Selkirk Technology Access Centre (STAC). These beautifully crafted pieces showcase talent and expertise within our own community, making the recognition even more meaningful.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to planning and delivering the day, and to all employees who took part.
We look forward to building on this inaugural event in the years ahead.
