Student Newsletter Pilot Project

We’re excited to share that Selkirk College launched a monthly student newsletter this year! This pilot project provides a simple, centralized way for students to stay informed about college news, opportunities, resources, events and key dates.

Keeping Students Informed and Connected

The newsletter is a way to share important information and direct students to Selkirk.ca for accurate, up-to-date details. Its goals are to:

  • Improve visibility of important announcements and deadlines.
  • Highlight student services, programming and events.
  • Support student success through clear, accessible communication.
  • Promote a stronger sense of connection to the college community.

How Does It Work?

The pilot is a collaborative project between Student Engagement and Wellness, the Registrar’s Office and Marketing and Communications. Each month, the team selects content from information published on Selkirk.ca. Broad categories include:

  • News
  • Events
  • Important dates
  • Notices, tips, resources and reminders

The project team is refining the content strategy throughout the year-long pilot project by analyzing engagement metrics, such as click-through rates, which indicate how many students click on a specific story.

How Can I Get Content Included?

The best way to ensure content is considered for inclusion in the newsletter is to make sure it’s published on Selkirk.ca.

Featuring published content ensures students receive accurate, easy-to-find and up-to-date information. It also enables measurable analytics and drives traffic to the website, improving search engine rankings and ultimately strengthening Selkirk College’s online visibility.

What Comes After the Pilot Project?

In May, the project team will review the pilot project data to determine the next steps. If you have feedback or suggestions, please connect with Claire Philipson.
