Thompson Hickey is the vice-chair of the Selkirk College Board of Governors.

How did you make your way to the Selkirk College Board of Governors?

During my time at Teck Resources in Trail we enjoyed a very strong relationship and connection with Selkirk College and the community. It seemed like a natural transition to expand that connection by participating at the board of governors level.

Tell us about one of your favourite Selkirk College moments.

My favourite moments come from attending several November galas, where the students get to showcase their many talents in hospitality, music and health care.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

I think the best advice I received was from a mentor who encouraged me to try new things and move to different places. You learn so much from these new experiences.

What's something you enjoy doing outside of serving the college?

I enjoy the natural beauty of the Kootenays and all that it offers for recreation, whether that is skiing, mountain biking, hiking or fishing (although fish are usually safe from me).
