How did you make your way to Selkirk College?

I arrived as a student in the Postgraduate Business Program a few years ago and graduated last May. I really appreciated my experience and time at the college, and I like living in this area, so I was very happy to have the opportunity to come back here to work full-time.

Describe one of your favourite Selkirk College moments.

When I was a student, I was on a team representing Selkirk College that competed in business case competitions. And at the SmartSims international competition, we placed third, even though we were up against some big universities and colleges from around the world. We felt pretty proud that our small college made it up on the Wall of Fame with schools like the University of Auckland and St. Mary’s University. Our instructors did such a great job preparing us.

What's the best advice you ever received?

I have a lot of maternal instincts, which makes me want to help everyone. Some of the best advice I got was from someone younger whom I was mentoring. At one point, he said, “You have to know when to let me fight my own battles and take a risk for myself, or I won’t be able to grow.” And he was absolutely right. You have to know where the line is between giving someone support and trying to do everything for them.

What is something you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love to talk with other people—you always learn something new when you open yourself up to being social. I also like to draw, especially cartoons.

Please share a non-work-related recommendation! Let us know one of your favourite shows, albums, books—or your preferred treat from the cafeteria.

Robin Legere and I had dinner at Busaba Thai Café in Nelson a few weeks ago. The Kai Todd was amazing, and I really recommend it as a nice place to go out.
