Meet Marissa Morin

Marissa Morin, buyer, connected with Lareena Rilkoff, vice-president, college services, to talk about life at Selkirk College and beyond.

How did you make your way to Selkirk College?

I was born and raised in the Kootenays, and during high school, I had the chance to take a leadership course at Selkirk College. It was my first time on campus, and I was immediately struck by the welcoming atmosphere and sense of community.

Fast forward over a decade, after returning to the Kootenays to be closer to family, I found myself drawn back to Selkirk College. The positive impression it left on me all those years ago made it clear that this was exactly where I wanted to be.

Describe one of your favourite Selkirk College moments.

I’ve been fortunate to work at Selkirk College for over six years, during which I’ve had the opportunity to contribute across several campuses and participate in Convocation and events such as Discovery Day and holiday craft-making.

While those big moments are wonderful, my best memories come from the smaller, day-to-day interactions—helping students and colleagues, sharing conversations, and being part of the supportive and welcoming community that makes Selkirk College so special.

What's the best advice you ever received?

“Focus on what you can control and let go of what you can't." It's a simple reminder to channel your energy where it truly matters—your actions, reactions and choices—while not wasting it on things beyond your control.

What is something you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I cherish spending quality time with my family and enjoying the outdoors—whether it's hiking, biking, riding ATVs or evening tackling yard work. Currently, I’m in the phase of life where I spend much of my time chauffeuring my daughters and their friends around.

Please share a non-work-related recommendation! Let us know one of your favourite shows, albums, books—or your preferred treat from the cafeteria.

My favourite walking/biking path is the trails on the Castlegar Campus.
