Accommodation Process

Instructors Role

Student-Initiated Process

Students self-identify as having a disability to request academic accommodation. Students provide documentation of disability to their Accessibility Coordinator for review. The Accessibility Coordinator reviews this information to understand the student’s disability related limitations and needs, and works with the student to develop an accommodation plan.

Instructors Receive Memorandum of Academic Accommodation

If the student decides to access accommodations for classroom or testing environments, instructors will receive a Memorandum of Academic Accommodation outlining the student’s eligible accommodations.

Instructors Feedback on Accommodation Plan is Welcome

If an instructor feels that any of the recommended accommodations will interfere with essential learning outcomes of a course or program, they must contact the Accessibility Coordinator within 3 days to discuss their concerns to ensure that any changes needed are made in a timely manner.

Implementing Accommodations

The Accessibility Coordinator will provide instructors with the necessary information to implement accommodations. This may include information via email or personal communication.

Consultation and Support is Available

Instructors and students are encouraged to contact their Accessibility Coordinator at any time to access support and resources to help maximize student success and to address any challenges.

Duty to Inquire

If instructors notice a student is struggling, exhibiting unusual behavior, or is in need of support, and they feel a disability may be a factor, they are encouraged to inform the student of supports available at the college, and to contact Accessibility Services, Counseling Services, or Learning Skills Support on their campus for guidance.
