*Work Incidents - First Aid & Reporting

What is the difference between a major or minor injury?

At some of our larger campuses, we have implemented a first aid system that asks building occupants to distinguish between a major or minor injury prior to calling for first aid in order to ensure our Level Two and Three Attendants are available when emergency care is needed. The emergency number specific to your campus dials all Level Two and Three Attendants on your campus at the same time via an emergency cellphone attendants carry with them during their working hours. If you are unsure of the category the injury falls under, please access the emergency care just in case, but note that this will initiate the first aid attendants’ emergency response procedure.

A Major Injury: is generally an injury where a patient should not be moved and includes (but is not limited to):

  • a large fall
  • unconscious patient
  • airway problems
  • seizures
  • heavy bleeds
  • head injury

A Minor Injury: is generally an injury that allows the patient to still walk for help. If possible when walking to first aid treatment, have someone walk with the patient in case the injury progresses during his or her travel.
