About The Board of Governors
Selkirk College educates a student population of almost 12,000, through several campuses in the Kootenays. By legislation, the Selkirk College Board of Governors is responsible for the management, administration and control of the property, revenue, business and affairs of the college at all campuses and service centres.
Public trust is implicit in the relationships the college maintains with the students, alumni, faculty and staff, the broader community that it serves, and the organizations, governments and individuals who support Selkirk. Responsible governance and accountability for public resources are key components of that public trust relationship.
The Board uses a Best Practices framework and have thereby renewed our commitment to effective policies, practices and public disclosure. Each year, our Board reviews the strategic foundation mission, vission, and value statements and strategic directions of the College, and adjusts these, if required, to reflect changing times and resulting new directions.
Meeting Minutes
The Open Session Minutes for meetings of the Board of Governors are uploaded as they become available.
Board Policies
The Board must set policies for its own internal workings...how meetings are run, the topics, the role of officers and committees and how the Board will discipline itself. An effective design of Board process ensures that the Board fulfil its three main responsibilities:
- Maintaining links to the public including advocacy, community relationship building and fund raising on behalf of the college
- Formulating Selkirk College’s policies
- Assuring organizational performance
These are areas in which the Board must assume full responsibility and by setting clear process policies, it can develop a consistent approach for how it will operate.
Nomination Process
Our Board works closely with the Province’s Board Resourcing and Development Office (BRDO) to ensure that there are qualified candidates for appointment to future Board member position openings.
