About Indigenous Services

A Safe Environment for Culture to be Shared

Indigenous Services helps to create a safe environment for culture to be shared at Selkirk College, nurturing a community within the college so students can thrive.

We provide helpful and friendly support to all prospective and current Indigenous students, connecting them with financial aid advice, community support, career counseling, cultural activities and much more.

We work in partnership with departments and schools, as well as external agencies, to support activities and events that help promote tradition and culture while maintaining consistency and respectful practice at the College. For example, we make requests to Elders, Traditional Knowledge Keepers and other cultural service providers with whom the College has an agreed upon protocol with to offer a blessing, ceremony, a welcome or prayer. We also assist students and staff with planning events and activities with an Indigenous theme through the Gathering Place programming.‌

If you are an instructor looking for support with Indigenization, please visit the teaching and learning page.
