What is the Organizational Climate Survey at Selkirk College?
Organizational climate is the perception of an organization's employees about the organization’s processes, policies and practices. An assessment of the institution’s organizational climate along with a review of related academic research is expected to provide the data required to determine and design any follow-up workplace interventions if/as needed. The Organizational Climate Survey (OCS) seeks input to assess the organizational climate within Selkirk College. The findings will help us identify the next steps to enhance the organizational climate at Selkirk College.
Is the survey confidential and how is employee privacy protected?
The survey is completely confidential. Selkirk College takes this very seriously and has taken steps to comply with privacy laws and our internal code of conduct. A third-party consultant, Discovery Research, will collect and aggregate all information and remove any information in the comments that may identify someone. The data will then be provided to Selkirk Innovates for data analysis and report writing.
Consultant researchers and Selkirk College researchers who have access to data sign confidentiality agreements. Data is kept in a secure environment in Canada to ensure compliance with Tri-Council ethics guidelines, privacy legislation and Selkirk College policy.
Any personal information is being collected under the authority of Section 26(e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).
Who is administering the survey?
Selkirk Innovates is working with a third party, Discovery Research. Discovery Research will administer the survey using an online tool that collects the data and will report the aggregated results to Selkirk Innovates for data analysis and report writing.
What will Selkirk College do with the survey results?
The results of the survey will be shared with Selkirk College and be used to develop and tailor programs, policies and practices that best support our efforts to enhance organizational climate and employee experience.
What kind of questions are asked by the survey?
The survey gathers information about job satisfaction, organizational commitment and identification, sense of community, inclusion and health and safety specific to work-related stress. The survey also assesses the college’s commitment to reconciliation and additional comments. The survey also asks questions about how long you have worked at the organization, and what kind of role you have, so that Selkirk College can better understand the diversity of experience within the organization.
How were these questions developed?
The team at Selkirk Innovates conducted an extensive literature review for this project, which has informed the questions and scales used in the survey. The approach to use scales that have been tested and validated by academic literature—meaning they have been thoroughly checked to ensure they accurately measure what they’re supposed to measure—gives a high level of confidence that the questions being asked will provide accurate data needed to make evidence-based decisions.
